311 is an American rock band, formed in 1988. The band consists of Nick Hexum, Doug Martinez, Tim Mahoney, Aaron Wills and Chad Sexton. Their music is also classified as, funk metal, ska punk, reggae, jazz fusion, rap rock, rap metal and funk rock.
They released their first major record called ìMusicî in 1993. They released their second studio album entitled ìGrassrootsî the following year where it charted #8 on the Billboard Top Heat seekers chart and #193 on the Billboard 200.
Their 1995 self-titled album, ì311î is considered to be their best-selling CD. On August 5, 1997, ìTransistorî was released and reached #4 on Billboard 200. In 2003, they released ìEvolverî which debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200. It denoted a return to the straightforward guitar-heavy sound.
Their ninth studio album was released last June 2, 2009 and earned the band itís highest chart position by debuting number 3 on the US Billboard 200. As on early 2010, the band is in the midst of their spring 2010 tour.
