Albert Greene is a soul and gospel music singer, who is best known under his stage name ìAl Greenî or ìThe Reverend Al Green.î Green was born on April 13, 1946 in Forrest City, Arkansas, United States, and is listed by Rolling Stone magazine as the number 65 artist on their ì100 Greatest Artists of All Time.î In 1995, as proof of Greenís contribution to the music industry, he was given honors by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Greenís rise to stardom was fueled with the help of Willie Mitchell of Hi Records. Some of his popular songs included a remake of the classic ìI Canít Get Next to You,î and his original singles ìTired of being alone,î ìTake Me to the River,î and ìLetís Get Married.î
After more than 30 years, Green recently released an album entitled ìLay It Down,î which is one of his most successful albums to date. He was also given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002 as well as the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
