Brief Encounter is a British film produced in 1945, directed by David Lean. It was based on a one-act play in 1936 called Still Life. The film stars involved in the production include Celia Johnson, Trevor Howard, Joyce Carey, and Stanley Holloway.
The screenplay tells of a story between two married individuals seeking love with each other, one a housewife, while the other a doctor. In the beginning, their meetings were always kept short until after several meetings, the longer it became. The important meetings between these two individuals are always in the railway station, when they met and when they parted. The film is a sad, yet endearing film of an affair that was just not meant to be. The film ends with the two parting, the doctor to an assignment in Africa, and the housewife back to her family.
Brief Encounter has had several adaptations including theatre, radio, and opera.
