Britney Jean Spears was born on December 2, 1981 in McComb, Mississippi, United States. She is an American singer and entertainer. She is an acclaimed pop sensation and a certified chart topper all over the world.
Britney’s talent was discovered in 1992 when she joined a Star Search program for Disney Channel’s television series. It wasn’t until 1997 that Britney managed to sign a recording contract with Jive and her first album, “Baby One More Time”, debuted in 1999. The album debuted at number one and she was instantly recognized as the new pop icon and a “pop phenomenon”. Her rise in popularity revived teen pop in the late 1990s. Britney released another three albums which all debuted at number one including “Oops…I Did It Again!”, “Britney” and “In the Zone”. Her album success made her the only female artist in history to have her first three albums all debut at the number one spot.
Britney Spears was married twice, first with her childhood friend, Jason Alexander, and later on in 2004, she married Kevin Federlein. She had two sons with Federlein after which Britney’s career and reputation suffered after she experienced some personal and professional struggles. Britney’s struggles came to a point that she had a divorce with Federlein and was even ordered for rehabilitation.
Britney’s comeback was marked with her album “Blackout” which debuted at number two in UK Albums Chart. Since then, Britney has come a long way to renew herself, her reputation, and her career. Her latest album, “Circus”, whose song “Womanizer” jumped to number one spot in the Billboard Hot 100. Spears have sold over 83 million records all over the world. She is also ranked as the eighth best selling female recording artists in the United States with 32 million copies of her albums certified by the RIAA. She is currently the fifth best selling artist of the decade in the country as well as the top selling female artists. According to Forbes 2009, Spears is ranked 13th of the most powerful celebrity and the second most top-earning young musician with over $35 million dollars in earnings for this year.
