About Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills is an American Football League franchise founded by Ralph Wilson, Jr. on October 28, 1959. The team got its name by having a contest. James F. Dyson won $500 in his essay comparing the team to a band of “Buffalo Bills”. The team started playing in 1960 and has Orchard Park as their home.

The Bills’ first success was in 1964 and 1965. The team won in its division and defeated San Diego Chargers for the AFL Championship. The team was also the only AFL team to play in the post-season for four straight years, 1963 to 1966. In 1969, OJ Simpson was drafted and became the face of the franchise making the team competitive again. In 1973, he established a 2,003-yard record. The Bills then became a part of the NFL when it absorbed the AFL in a merger. The team then had the worst overall record in the NFL.

Starting 1988, the Bills won five AFC Eastern Division. In 1990s the team appeared in four straight Super Bowls, which no other team has ever done, yet had won none. Through it all, the team’s fans remain supportive setting an NFL single-season attendance record of 635,889 in 1991.
