Bye Bye Birdie is a popular American stage musical play. This play was derived from Michael Stewarts book. Lee Adams and Charles Strouse wrote music and lyrics for the musical. The play has won several awards including a few Tonys.
Edward Padula, a theater producer, created a plan for making a musical show initially titled Letís Go Steady which was a happy teenage musical. Strouse and Adams were hired by Padula and the two sought the service of Gower Champion. It serves as a satire of American society.
In June 1961, the show first played in the West End at Her Majestyís Theater. It toured the US beginning in 1990 and 1991. Also, in 2004, an abridged version of the musical was held at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
On May 4, 2010, Adam Shankman, a film director and producer posted on Twitter that he was working with a new adaptation of the said musical.
