This refers to the sports teams of the University of Colorado which has 16 varsity sports teams. Both the menís and womenís teams are called Buffaloes or rarely Golden Buffaloes. Womenís team members were referred to as Lady Buffaloes since the 70s but this was dropped in 1993.
Prior to the Buffaloes, previous names carried by the teams include Silver Helmets and Frontiersmen. The university has a number of winning sports teams, among them football, menís and womenís basketball, as well as cross country skiing team. The football program in the university is ranked 16th on the all time win list and has played on Folsom Field since 1924.
The Menís basketball team plays at the Coors Event Center on campus. The womenís team was formed in 1975.
The universityís ski team also competes as part of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association and is one of the most dominant programs in the NCAA in skiing and has won a total of 16 championships.
