The Dallas Mavericks is a professional basketball team and is a member of the Southwest Division of the National Basketball Association’s Western Conference. The team is based in Dallas, Texas and is considered as one of the most valuable basketball franchise in the country with a franchise worth of approximately $466 million. It was named after Maverick, a Western-themed TV show.
The team was founded in 1980 and has since then won two division titles in 1987 and 2007 and a conference championship in 2006. The team was founded by Don Carter, a businessman and his partner Norm Sonju. It was the second professional basketball team that is based in Dallas after the American Basketball Association team, Dallas Chaparrals.
Some of the team’s notable players include Dirk Nowitzki, Mark Aguirre, James Donaldson, Jason Kidd, Michael Finley, Shawn Marrion, Chris Gatling and Steve Nash. It has currently eleven all-star players and two retired numbers, Brad Davis and Rolando Blackman.
