Die Zauberflote or ìThe Magic Fluteî in English is a famous German opera. The opera was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791. Because of the operaís rich history, many audiences flock to opera house just to see the show.
The opera was the outcome of a time of rampant involvement by Mozart and Schikanederís theatrical team. Theater auf der Wieden was the resident theater of Mozartís theatrical group since 1789.
The play was constructed as a Singspiel a well known form that included both singing and spoken dialogue. In September 30, 1791 the opera did its inaugural play in Vienna, Austria. It was held at the Freihaus-Theater auf der Wieden.
The play started with Mozart conducting the orchestra, Schikaneder played the piano and Josepha Hofer as the singer. In 1792 the play celebrated its 100th performance. Unfortunately, Mozart didnít see his own creation, having died of his illness on December 5, 1791.
Ever since the first show was played, the opera become the most beloved operatic works in the operatic repertoire. Currently the opera is the eight most commonly played opera in North America.
