About Full Monty

The Full Monty is a musical that was created by David Yazbek, and it comes with a book that was written by Terrence McNally. The musical is based on the British film that was released in 1997, which incidentally has the same name as the musical.

The musical basically focuses on the lives of six Buffalo steelworkers who are both facing the reality of having low cash and low prospects. The six decide to do an act after they show the effect of the Chippendales on their wives. The men believe they will definitely be better than the Chippendales since they will be going ìthe full monty,î which is stripping all the way. The show then circles around the obstacles the men face in order to shed their self-consciousness and overcome obstacles by finding strength in their friendship.

The musical premiered in San Diego at the Old Globe Theater. After 35 previews, the Broadway version of the musical opened at the Eugene OíNeill Theatre. The Broadway version stayed running for 770 performances until its end in 2008. The musical is also multi-awarded, even winning the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music.
