The Georgetown Hoyas is the collective name for a group of athletics teams and is the official representative of the Georgetown University in college sports. The university is located in Washington, D.C. and was built and founded in 1789.
The Hoyas is part of the NCAA's Division I and is composed of 23 sports teams that are of the varsity levels. Most of these teams participate in the Big East Conference except the Hoyas football team. Its most successful and famous program is the Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team but in general, Hoyas is successful is a variety of sports teams that are under its name.
Most of the teams under Georgetown Hoyas have their own athletic facilities in the Georgetown University's main campus. The men's basketball team plays most of the team's home games in the downtown area of Washington, D.C. in the Verizon Center. As of April 2010, the athletic director of Hoyas is Lee Reed.
