Jimmy Buffet is an American singer/songwriter. A native of Alabama, Buffet was born James William Buffer on December 25,1964. His musical genres include pop, gulf and western, soft rock, easy listening, and beach music.

He is known for his island escapism style of music. Buffet’s band is known as the ‘Coral Reefer Band’ and his fans are known as the ‘Parrotheads’. He began his music career in Nashville. In the 1960s, he released his first album “Down to Earth”. His third album was released in 1973, entitled “White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean”. He followed it with “Havana Dreamin’” and the “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes”. The later contained his hit song “Margaritaville”.

In the 1980s, Buffet became a popular concert draw and he was said to have made more money with his concerts than he did with his albums. In the next 20 years, Buffet released a series of albums, which were mostly geared towards loyal fans. He also released a Christmas album. As of 2007, there have been over 30 Jimmy Buffet albums released. He won his first Country Music Award in 2003 for his song “It’s 5o’clock Somewhere”.

Other than his music career, he is also best selling author and he owns restaurant chains, Cheeseburger in Paradise and Margaritaville, which were named after two of his top performing songs.
