Le Nozze de Figaro
Le Nozze de Figaro is an opera written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1786 based on the stage comedy called La Folle Journee, ou le Mariage de Figaro by Pierre Beaumarchais. Famous arias and the classic overture piece have transcended time, serving as popular repertoire for classical artists during recitals and concerts.
Due to its satirical depiction of Austrian aristocracy in Mozart’s time, the opera met initial lukewarm reception but finally debuted in Vienna in May 1786, two performances of which were conducted by Mozart himself. He was requested to attend the Prague production in 1789, resulting to him taking on the baton as well.
Le Nozze de Figaro is one of the all-time classic opera pieces that continue to be performed throughout the world. The story starts where the play ‘Barber of Seville’ left off, continuing the saga of a treacherous Count who uses his power in getting in between the people around him.
Famous opera singers who rendered their voices for Le Nozze de Figaro recordings include Kiri Te Kanawa, Anna Moffo, Hermann Prey, Edith Mathis among others. Some of the memorable arias are "Non so più cosa son, cosa faccio"; “Porgi, amor qualche ristoro"; "Giovani liete, fiori spargete" and the duettino “Sull’Aria”.
