Little Shop of Horrors is a rock musical that was created by the combination of Howard Ashmanís writing and Alan Menkenís compositions. The musical is based on the film by Roger Corman titled ìThe Little Shop of Horrors,î and was first produced in 1982 Off-Broadway.
The show is about a florist shop worker who has raised a plant that feeds on the blood of humans. Much of the show revolves around what happens in the shop, and how the main characters deal with the blood thirsty plant.
The music in the show showcases the styles of the early 60s with a number of early Motown, doo-wop, and rock and roll pieces, with the incorporation of show-stoppers. The show has been performed in various places aside from Broadway, and has been a recipient of a number of awards such as the Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, Outer Critics Circle Award, and Evening Standard Award for Best Musical.
