Lord of the Dance is an Irish musical created and produced by Michael Flatley, an Irish-American dancer. Music for the show was written by Ronan Hardiman. The play premiered in 1996. The play was performed at the Oscars, Epcot in Walt Disney World, Disneyland Paris Resort, and other theaters all over the world.
The Lord of the Dance lives in and rules Planet Ireland. An evil dark lord, Don Dorcha, sets out to dominate the planet; thus, the Lord of the Dance must win the fight so as to keep the planet in his rule. Various dance sequences simulate the fight. A subplot in the story is one maidenís (Saoirse, the Irish CailÌn) fight for her love for The Lord of the Dance. She must fight the wicked Morrighan, the Temptress.
This story draws allusions from the Bible, Irish folklore, and various stories. In 1998, the story and the show was expanded and named Feet of Flames.
