Lucia Di Lammermoor is a stage play created by Gaetano Donizetti. It was also created by Salvadore Cammarano. The stage play is loosely based from The Bride of Lammermoor, a historical novel written by Sir Walter Scott. This 3-act tragic opera premiered at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
The story is set at the Lammermuir hills of Scotland. The story is almost like Romeo and Juliet where the two starcrossed lovers are separated and die tragically due to misunderstandings and jumping to the wrong conclusions.
Lucia lives at the Ravenswood Castle. She and Edgardo are in love. Edgardo has to leave the country for political reasons. They made a vow to each other that they would always be in love ñ they also exchanged rings as symbol of that vow.
With Edgardo gone, Luciaís brother arranged for her to be married to Arturo. Tragedy struck on the wedding day. After Lucia has reluctantly signed the marriage contract, Edgardo arrives. Fighting ensues. In the end, the two lovers die.
