The Maryland Terrapins are a popular Division one team under the National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA in the United States. The Terrapins belong to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The team is called ìTerpsî by their fans. The team represents the University of Maryland, College Park in NCAA sports. The school currently supports 27 varsity teams with their official colors of Red, White, Black, and Gold.
The team was founded and established in 1856 and between 1921 and 1953; the Terps become a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon). The team in 1953 seceded with six other SoCon schools to create the Atlantic Coast Conference or ACC.
Fans of Maryland, specifically students, are well known to be very supportive and loyal to their Maryland Athletics. In 2005 a publishing company rated Maryland as first overall in Studentís attendance in every sporting event that is held in their own school campus. In the other hand, in 1928 the victory song for Maryland was written by Thortorn W. Allen and played frequently in Terrapinsí games.
