Memphis Tigers is an athletic group composed of varsity teams that represent the University of Memphis in the NCAA Division I C-USA Conference. The group is made up of 9 womenís sports teams and 9 menís sports teams that include basketball, baseball, football, and swimming.
The Tigers are currently headed by their athletic director, R.C. Johnson and they play wearing their team colors of blue and gray. According to the groupís history, the first team that was created was the universityís football team in 1912. Many of the groupís games are played around Memphis, such as the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium for the football games, FedExPark for baseball games, and FedExForum for the basketball games.
Throughout the groupís history, many notable names have passed the walls of the university such as basketball players Derrick Rose, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Sean Banks, Keith Lee, Tyreke Evans, Shawne Williams, Darius Washington, Jr., and Elliot Perry, as well as football players DeAngelo Williams, Tony Brown and Isaac Bruce.
