Minnesota Golden Gophers is a group of athletic teams that play for the University of Minnesota. The group is composed of approximately 23 teams that participate in the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference. The sports that these teams play in include basketball, baseball, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, golf, track and field, and cross country.
The group is currently headed by Joel Maturi as their athletic director, and the teams play wearing their school colors of gold and maroon. Each of the athletic teams uses specific sports facilities for their home games, which are found all over the state. For instance, the Williams Arena is used for basketball games, while the football team uses the TCF Bank Stadium for their games.
Since the group was formed, each of the athletic teams have won some national championships, with the men's ice hockey team reaping the most championship titles. While the ice hockey team has 7 titles, the football team ranks next with their own 6 national championship titles.
