One of the famous West End musical is ìMiss Saigonî. This play was created by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boubil with lyrics by Boubil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It is considered as Schonber and Boublilís second major success following Les Miserables.
The play was largely derived from ìMadame Butterflyî opera by Giacomo Puccini. The story depicted a 1970ís Saigon during the Vietnam War.
In September 20, 1989, the musical had its first show at the Theater Royal, Dury Lane in London. In addition, the play opened at the Broadway Theater in New York City in 1991. The musical is one of the longest-running Broadway musical in theater history.
Since the Broadway, opening in 1991 the play was largely hyped as one of the best musical play in that year. Miss Saigon broke many records in Broadway that includes a record in advance ticket sales. Because of this, the show repaid their investors in just 39 weeks after the first musical show played.
The show had two major tours in the US in 1992 and 2002, which prove to be successful.
