The Montreal Canadians is a professional ice hockey team that is a member of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The club is also officially known as le Club de hockey Canadien. The team also has other nicknames it is known as including Les Canadiens, Le Bleu-Blanc-et-Rouge, and ect.
The Montreal Canadians ice hockey team was founded in 1909 and is the longest continuously operating professional ice hockey team as well as the only existing NHL club to come before the founding of the National Hockey League. It is also one of the oldest North American sports franchises.
The Canadiens have won a total of 24 Stanley Cups, making them the one team with more wins than any other team. One of these Stanley Cups was won before the founding of the NHL in 1916. As of the year 2010, the Montreal Canadians have won 25% of all Stanley Cup championships hosted after the Challenging Cup era. This makes the Canadiens one of the most successful professional sports teams of the four traditional major sports in Canada and the United States.
The Canadiens have played their home games since 1996 at the Bell Centre which was later named the Molson Centre until 2003.
