About My Fair Lady
My Fair Lady is a musical play created by Alan Jay Lerner who wrote the book and the lyrics. Frederick Loewe wrote the music. The musical is actually based on Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. The musical premiered in February 1956 at the Erlanger Theater in Philadelphia before moving to Broadway the following month.

The fair lady in question is a young Cockney woman, Eliza, who sells flowers for a living. Following an incident wherein a young man, Freddy (who would later become her suitor), runs into her and spills her violets in the mud, she meets a linguist (Pickering) and a phoneticist (Higgins). The latter offered to teach her how to speak properly to become a ìladyî. After she left, Pickering wagered that Higgins could not succeed in teaching Eliza.

In the end, Eliza becomes a refined woman who knows how to speak and carry herself properly. Higgins ends up falling in love with her.
