Nebraska Cornhuskers is a group of athletic varsity teams who play for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The group is composed of approximately 21 teams that represent the university in the NCAA Big 12 Conference in 14 sports programs. Some of these sports include basketball, bowling, cross country, rifle, track and field, wrestling, tennis, and volleyball.
Tom Osborne is the current athletics director of the team, and its team colors are cream and scarlet. Before the Cornhuskers got its current nickname, it first enjoyed other nicknames such as ìHawkeyes,î ìAntelopes,î ìBugeaters,î ìMankilling Mastodons,î and ìOld Gold Knights.î However, it was in 1893 that the new nickname began to stick with the group, which they have carried over since then. They also have two mascots who help get the crowd on their feet, and these are Lilí Red and Herbie Husker.
The home games that the group plays are played in the various sports facilities in Nebraska, such as the Memorial Stadium, Bob Devaney Sports Center, and the Haymarket Park.
