The New England Patriots, more popularly known as the ‘Pats’ are a pro football team that is based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots are a member of the East Division of the American Football League Conference in the NFL. Originally known as the Boston Patriots, the team’s name was changed after they relocated their home base to Foxborough, a suburb of Boston, in the 70s. This would be the team’s homebase for the succeeding 30 years.

Although not unfamiliar with a history of losses, the Pats were able to snag a spot in the 1976 playoffs as a wild card team and 1978 as the AFC champions, although they did not get past the first round in both times. They made it to the Superbowl XX in 1985 but they lost to the Chicago Bears.

The team is currently owned by Robert Kraft, who bought the team in 1994 from previous owner James Orthwein. The team is coached by Bill Belichick who signed on to take the job in 2000. He was responsible for taking the team through three Superbowl wins in four years and for finishing the season with a 16- 0 record. The Pats also got a new home stadium with the opening of the Gillette Stadium in 2002.
