The New York Jets is one of the professional football teams based in New York. Known more commonly as the Jets, the team was originally known as the New York Titans and was established in 1960. The Jets belong to the Eastern Division of American Football Conference in the NFL. After a series of financial difficulties and the threat of bankruptcy the team was bought by Andres J. Groser in 1963. The Jets experienced their best record to date during the time of Joe Namath, who joined the team in the 50s. In 1967, Namath was pivotal in helping the team establish a 8-5-1 record, and in 1968, with Namath’s leadership, the Jets reached the top of the AFL after a successful defeat of the Oakland Raiders. This qualified them to play in the Superbowl, where they defeated the Baltimore Colts, the first time that an AFL team was able to beat a team from the NFL. The 16-7 win is considered one of the greatest upsets in football history. The New York Jets play in East Rutherford, New Jersey, making its home at the Giants Stadium, which it shares with the New York Giants. However, the team trains and keeps its corporate HQ in Florham, New Jersey.
