The Oakland Athletics is a baseball team that plays for the Major Leagues. Often referred to as the “Athletics,” the team is a part of the Western Division of the league, and from 1968 to present, the team calls the Oakland Coliseum as their home field.
The team is one of the American League’s main eight charter franchises since 1901. Before becoming the Oakland Athletics, the team was first called the Philadelphia Athletics before it moved to Kansas City, where it was renamed to Kansas City Athletics. In 1968 the team moved once more to Oakland, where it has remained to date.
The team is owned by Lewis Wolff, and managed by Bob Geren. As the Oakland Athletics, the team has enjoyed seeing a number of its players inducted into the Hall of Fame, such as Orlando Cepeda, Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Goose Gossage, Rickey Henderson, and Reggie Jackson. The team can easily be identified through its team colors: gold, green, and white.
