The Oakland Raiders is a professional American football team that is officially based in the city of Oakland, California. The team currently plays in the NFL’s American Football Conference in the Western Division. Most commonly referred to with their nickname, The Raiders, the team began to play professional football in 1960 where they won three division titles and one championship. After several years of legal battles regarding the management of the franchise, the Raiders were moved by Al Davis to Los Angeles, California where they were known as the Los Angeles Raiders. While in L.A., the team won their third Super Bowl but only made a couple of appearances in the playoffs throughout their stay in L.A. until the rest of the 80s. Al Davis moved the team back to Oakland in 1995 where it was again renamed to Oakland Raiders. With head coach Jon Gruden, the Oakland Raiders then went on to play a 12-4 season and the team’s first division title since 1990. This championship win is then the first of a three year winning streak for the Oakland Raiders in the American Football Conference west division. Currently, the team owner and general manager is Al Davis and head coach is Tom Cable.
