Oliver! is a musical that was created by Lionel Bart, that premiered in 1960 in the West End. The musical is heavily based on the novel by Charles Dickens titled ìOliver Twist.î The musical did well on Broadway for several years, and in 1968, the production was adapted into a musical film, which won six Academy Awards.
The original production of the musical ran for 2618 performances before moving forward. In the United States, the musical was previewed in 1962, and the first Broadway production was opened in January 1963 at the Imperial Theater.
Although the musical has been revived a number of times over the past, it has been revived recently in 2009, where Rowan Atkinson starred as Fagin, Burn Gorman as Bill Sikes, Julian Glover as Mr. Brownlow, and Louise Gold as Mrs. Sowerberry. The said revival of the musical received high accolades and was nominated for Best Revival of a Musical.
