Penn State Nittany Lions is a group of athletic teams that represent the Pennsylvania State University in intercollegiate competitions. The teams participate in the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference every year, wearing their blue and white school colors. With their mascot, the ìNittany Lion,î their athletic director ensures that the teams play the best that they can in each of the different sports categories such as basketball, baseball, volleyball, swimming, gymnastics, and field hockey.
The group is made up of 29 varsity teams, and in each of the home games that are played in the state, the group uses various sports facilities that the state has to offer. For instance, football games are played in the Beaver Stadium, baseball games are held at the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, and the basketball games are held at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Throughout its years of activity, the group has managed to win a total of 66 national championship titles ñ including 38 NCAA Championship titles, as well as a slew of other smaller scale championships.
