The Philadelphia Flyers is a team of professional ice hockey players that play in the NHL’s (National Hockey League) Eastern Conference. The team is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and they call the Wachovia Center as its home arena.
The team is the first team that was not a part of the league’s original six teams to have won the Stanley Cup. Comcast Spectator, the team’s owners, have hired Paul Holmgren to manage the team, and Peter Laviolette to do the coaching.
Before fully participating in the NHL, Philadelphia had to sit out almost 35 years of non-participation, waiting for NHL to come back to the city. It was until Ed Snider, made plans to make a new arena and proposed his idea to the league. Fortunately, the league granted his proposal, and the team was created.
Throughout its years of activity, the team has won several division championships as well as conference championship titles, and it also has 2 Stanley Cups to its name.
