The Phoenix Coyotes is a team of professional ice hockey players who play in the National Hockey League’s Western Conference. The team is currently based in Glendale, Arizona, and calls the Jobing.com Arena as its home court. The team was founded in 1972, and was previously called the “Winnipeg Jets” back when it was still playing in the World Hockey Association.
The team joined the NHL in 1979, and it is currently owned by the NHL since the team’s management filed for bankruptcy in May of 2009. The league plans to sell the team to an owner who will agree to keep the team in its present Phoenix/Glendale location.
Although the team has been around since 1996, they have yet to win a single championship title. The team is also currently being coached by Dave Tippett, and managed by Don Maloney. As of March 2010, the team was able to get a playoff spot – the first playoff spot since the 2001-2002 season.
