The Preakness Stakes is a Grade I stakes race in America where three-year-old thoroughbred horses are raced on a 1-3/16 mile track. Every year, these races are held in Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore, Maryland on the third Saturday of May. The first time the race was held was in 1873, and has since then been referred to as "The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans."
While there have been a number of fillies that have won in the Preakness Stakes since the day it started, there have been a total of 5 fillies who won 134 races. These fillies are Flocarline, Rhine Maiden, Nellie Morse, Whimsical, and Rachel Alexandra.
One of the icons of the race is the Woodlawn Vase, which is awarded to every Preakness winner. However, the first winner who was given the award was not allowed to keep it. Years after, half-size replicas of the trophy were then given to those who won, which would be theirs to keep.
