The San Jose Sharks is a team of professional ice hockey players, and is a part of the National Hockey League’s Western Conference. The team is based in San Jose, California, and it calls the HP Pavilion at San Jose as its home area, aka the “Shark Tank.”
The team got its name through a contest where over 5,000 potential names were submitted. Initially the name that won the contest was “Blades,” but due to the concern of the owners that the name would be attributed to weapons and other negative associations, the owners went with the name in second place, which was “Sharks”.
The team is currently owned by the San Jose Sports and Entertainment Enterprises, and managed by Doug Wilson. The person responsible for whipping the players into shape is Todd McLellan, with Rob Blake serving as the team’s Captain. The team’s distinguishing colors are black, white, burnt orange, and Deep Pacific teal.
