Sunset Boulevard is a musical created by Christopher Hampton and Don Black. Music was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The musical is based on the 1950 film of the same title. It debuted in London in 1993. It has been shown in many international theaters.
The play tells the story of Norma Desmond, a woman who had once been a big star in the silent movies era but had never transitioned to the movies with sound. Spending years in her dilapidated mansion on the Sunset Boulevard, she writes a script entitled ìSalomeî where she is supposed to take the role of a sultry 16-year-old seductress. Meanwhile, down on his luck, Joe Gillis, a screenwriter takes refuge in her mansion when he was chased by car repossession agents.
Joe lives in the mansion in the guise of revising Salome. Soon he becomes her kept man but is also maintaining a relationship with Betty, a young editor. Norma soon finds out about the relationship, prompting her to fatally shoot Joe.
