Taylor Allison Swift, born on December 13, 1989, is an American country pop singer and songwriter. Her debut single “Tim McGraw”, released in 2006, peaked at number 6 at the Billboard Country Charts. In October of that same year, she released her self titled album, producing five hit singles and reaching a certified 3x Multi-Platinum status.

A native of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Swift is the daughter of Scott and Andrea Swift. She started to sing and write at a very young age. When she was in 4th grade, she wrote a poem entitled “Monster in My Closet”, which went on to win a national poetry contest. From then on, she started to pursue a career in performing. She joined a theater comedy group called “TheatreKids Live!” She also enjoyed singing Karaoke and even used the medium to help her record demo tapes, which she distributed to record labels in Nashville.

Swift’s early attempts at singing with a label were unsuccessful. At age 14, Swift and her family moved to a suburb close to Nashville. When she was 15, she turned down a contract with RCA Records, because the label would not allow her to record her own music. She later signed with Big Machine Records.

Her next album, ‘Fearless’, which was released in 2008, debuted number one at the Billboard 200. ‘Fearless’ is also the first album to sell 1 million copies in 2009 and it has also produced four top 10 hits.
