Texas Rangers is a professional baseball team which represents the Dallas–Forth Worth Metropolitan Area of the state of Texas. The team belongs to the Western Division under the Major League Baseball American League. The team’s name was actually derived from real rangers – a law enforcement agency called the “Texas Rangers”. The team has never won a playoff series – the only major league team with such record.
The team started out as the Washington Senators at Washington, D.C. In 1960, it then moved to Minnesota and was called the “Twins”. Several losing streaks followed the team through many owners. By 1970, it was again up for sale – Arlington, Texas offered several millions of dollars of up-front payment, ensuring that the team will move to Texas starting on the 1972 season.
The new city did not change the team’s losing streak. The Rangers had the disadvantage of playing in some of the hottest climate conditions of the state so that games on May to September had to be played at night – something that has continued to this day.
The teams’ overall totals as of the 2008 season is at 0.468 lifetime average winning percentage – that translates to losing 4,059 and winning 3,570 games in all.
