The Break of Noon is a play which debuted in November 2010. This off Broadway show is produced and performed at the Lucille Lortel Theater. The play is another one of Neil LaButeís darkly comic morality plays. It explores the harrowing and daunting process of finding oneís religion.
The play begins with a horrific massacre at the office where John Smith, the main character works. The shooting incident is dubbed as the worst office shooting in the history of America as all the 37 office workers died, except Smith. Clearly shaken by the incident and being the sole survivor of the massacre, Smith believes that he was spared by God.
He insists to others that he has achieved spiritual salvation. However, he also lives a double life of a man who pursuing fame. He sells photographs of the carnage he took using his cell phone. He earned a lot of money for those pictures.
