About Toby Keith
Toby Keith Covel, more popularly known as “Toby Keith”, is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer born on July 8, 1961 in Clinton, Oklahoma. As a child, longed to be a musician and got his first guitar at a tender age of 8. Still, he did not pursue music right away – he played and was active in football during high school. He then worked as a derrick hand then worked up to the operation manager position in the oil fields of Oklahoma.

By the time he was 20, he picked up music once again and, along with some friends, formed “Easy Money”, a band which played in local bars. Because he was still working in the oil fields, he sometimes had to leave in the middle of concerts to attend to problems or accidents at work. When the oil industry decline, he tried to get back to football but focused more on the band.

He was given a break when an avid fan handed a copy of his demo tape to Mercury Records’ executive, Harold Shedd. In 1993, his first single and album (self-titled) became number 1 on Billboard’s country singles chart. The album was quickly followed by Boomtown in 1994, Blue Moon in 1996, and Dream Walkin’ in 1997. More chart-topper songs also followed in his next albums. Overall, he released 10 studio albums, 2 Christmas albums, and many compilation albums.
