Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is a group of musicians that play heartland rock. The band was formed in 1976 by Tom Petty and his band mates from Mudcrutch, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench. Although the band has not been able to release a new album since 2002, they still continue to tour around the country and certain parts abroad.
The band has undergone some changes since it was created, and some band members have already been replaced. The three main band members: Tench, Campbell, and Petty, are the only ones who have remained ever since.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are known for a number of hit singles such as “Learning to Fly,” “The Waiting,” “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” and “American Girl.” The band is a proud owner of a fame star on the Hollywood walk of Fame, and has been a recipient of many awards including several Grammy Awards. The band has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
