United States Open Championship, better known as the ìU.S. Open,î is a yearly golf tournament that was established in 1895. The tournament is one of the four major championships that are held every year, and is a part of the European Tour as well as the PGA Tour. The competition takes place at various locations, and in 2010, the tournament is set to take place at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The U.S. Open is known to be open to any golfer ñ whether professional or amateur ñ who can get into the tournament by being fully exempt or by going through the qualifying rounds. In every event, only 156 players are allowed to participate.
Being one of the major championships, the U.S. Open has seen many great golfers, as well as winners who have records of winning the championship more than once. Some of these players include Jack Nicklaus, Hale Irwin, Tiger Woods, Lee Janzen, and Willie Anderson.
