The Washington Wizards plays in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association. This professional team carried the name Washington Bullets until 1997. Their home games can be seen at the Verizon Center, Washington DC.
Established in 1961, the Wizards encountered many name changes until it reached its current one. The team experienced the Michael Jordan years when the basketball legend decided to play for the Washington Wizards in 2001, after retiring from Chicago Bulls in 1999. He was also an executive in the team, serving as a minority owner. He finally left in 2003, leaving a stronger Wizards team in the midst.
The official team colors for the Wizards are black, gold, white and state blue. The Washington Wizards is pitted with the Cleveland Cavaliers in a team rivalry of sorts.
The team has a handful of Hall of Fame inductees among its retired squad members such as Earl ìThe Pearlî Monroe, Moses Malone and Michael Jordan.
