What The Butler Saw, a comedy farce created by Joe Orton, an English playwright. The comedy was first performed in March 5, 1969 at Londonís Queenís Theatre.
The farce is divided into two acts, and focuses mainly on Dr. Prentice, who is a psychiatrist trying seduce Geraldine Barclay, a prospective secretary. Over the course of the supposed job interview, Dr. Prentice convinces Geraldine to undress. However, the interview goes awry when Mrs. Prentice comes in. The farce proceeds to revolve around the idea of a couple trying to succeed in extracurricular seductions at the same time attempt to hide their conquests from their respective partners.
Much of the farce includes the dry humor of the British as well as a focus on the social changes and social attitudes of people towards sexuality. The most recent performance of the farce took place in November 12, 2000 and ran until December 31, 2000 at the Theater at St. Clementís Church by New Group.
