Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, better known as Sting, CBE is a British music singer/songwriter who used to be the vocalist and bassist of the New Wave group, The Police, during the late 70s to early 80s.
After The Police disbanded in 1984, Sting pursed his solo career and in 1985 released his first solo album, “The Dream of the Blue Turtles.” The album reached No. 2 in the US Billboard 200, was a certified triple platinum record and earned him four Grammy nominations. It was his second album, “…Nothing Like the Sun” that earned him his first two Grammys.
With a total of eight solo albums, Sting’s accomplishments include being a 16-time Grammy Award winner; an inductee into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame; and an Oscar nominee for Best Song.
Other than music and songwriting, Sting also has undertaken acting in TV and film, social activism and philanthropy.
