AndrÈ LÈon Marie Nicolas Rieu or Andre Rieu is a Dutch conductor, violinist and a composer. He is famous for making an international revival in waltz music with his ìJohann Strauss Orchestra". The Orchestra started in 1987, which consists of 12 members but now, it performs with between 40 and 50 musicians.
Rieu and his orchestra have played throughout Japan, North America, and Europe. Their recordings have gone gold and platinum in a lot of countries. They have also won a number of awards that includes two World Music Awards.
In 2003, his performance along with his orchestra was broadcasted in the United States and United Kingdom via the PBS television network. PBS was also aired ìAndre Rieu Live in Dublinî. ìAndre Rieu Live in Tuscanyî was filmed on 2005, at the Piazza Della Republica at a small village of Cortona in Tuscany.
In November 13-15, 2008, they have been able to perform three concerts at Melbourne's Telstra Dome. They also continued their tour throughout Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane until December 2008.
