Arizona State Sun Devils is a group of athletic teams that participate in intercollegiate competitions for the Arizona State University. The Sun Devils play in the NCAA Pacific 10 Conference, and has approximately 20 varsity teams playing various sports such as basketball, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, cross country, tennis, and wrestling.
The team is currently headed by its athletic director, Lisa Love, and plays in its team colors of gold and maroon. Known as the ìSun Devils,î the group started adopting the nickname sometime in 1946, although there were other nicknames before such as ìOwlsî and ìNormals.î
Home games played by the Sun Devils are often held in some of the sports facilities in Arizona, such as the Sun Devil Stadium for football games, Packard Stadium for baseball games, and the Wells Fargo Arena for home basketball games. The groupís mascot named ìSparky,î is also iconic since it was created by Bert Anthony, a former illustrator from Disney.
