The Boston Red Sox, a member of Major League Baseball and American League Eastern Division, is a top baseball team, getting its name from its iconic uniform feature. The team started and was named Boston Americans from 1901 to 1907. The team is one of the oldest team in the league, making Fenway Park their home since 1912.
In 1903, they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in the First World Series and later in 1912, 1915, 1916 and 1918 with Hall of Famers Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Duffy Lewis and Babe Ruth who is the best pitcher posting an ERA of 2.19 and won 89 games. Ruth or “The Bambino” also became a league phenomenon when he hit a 29 round trippers.
By 1919, the team’s owner Harry Frazee had faced financial crisis and made the infamous transaction in baseball history. He sold Babe Ruth’s contract to the New York Yankees in 1920. The fans then attributed the long season of no World Series wins to this, even calling it the “Curse of the Bambino”.
In 1933, Tom Yawkey bought Red Sox got additional strong players. The curse was reversed in 2004 when the Boston Red Sox, after 100 years, won their sixth World Series.
