Celine Marie Claudette Dion, or simply Celine Dion, is a singer, actress, and songwriter from Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada. Dion was born into an impoverished family, and was a teen star during her early years. Dion is married to her husband and manager, Rene Angelil, who had mortgaged his house in order to help him finance Dion’s first record.
Dion’s rise to fame was fueled when she won the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in 1982 as well as the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988. She then followed the first win with a number of French albums after which she signed on to CBS Records Canada. However, it was during the 1990s when she was able to achieve worldwide fame after she signed with Epic Records, and was aided with Angelil.
Dion has collaborated with many notable names in the music business such as the Bee Gees, Barbra Streisand, Carole King, Michael Jackson, and more. Her songs have also won multiple awards such as 5 Grammy Awards, 12 World Music Awards, 2 Academy Awards, and 3 Golden Globe Awards.
