About Hair
Hair is a rock musical written by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music created by Galt MacDermot. Originally an off-Broadway production, Hair sought to depict the hippie generation faced against the dilemmas of Vietnam War, drugs and sexual revolution during the 60s.

The musical had its debut in Broadway in April 1968, performing to a much-impressed crowd and critics saw it as the definitive rock musical in theater history.

Hair ran for as long as 1,750 performances in Broadway, and 1,997 in London. The musical was brought before audiences across US theaters and throughout Europe. A film adaptation also came to the big screen in 1979.

In March 2009, Hair was revived in Broadway and won a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award along with a stream of rave reviews. The musical was a strong outlet for speaking out on societal norms that shunned race, nudity, violence and drugs. The original songs featured in the musical became top hits as well, including the penultimate sixties anthem, Aquarius, later recorded by the group The 5th Dimension. Other big-name artists who recorded songs from Hair were Diana Ross, Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minelli, Sarah Brightman, Sergio Mendes and Nina Simone.
