About JoffreyBallet
The Joffrey Ballet is an American dance company founded in 1956 and is famous for its performance of such famous ballets as Romeo and Juliet and The Nutcracker. It is known as one of the premier dance companies in the United States. Aside from classic ballet presentations, the Joffrey Ballet is also one of the premier performers of modern dance pieces. The company has also worked with a veritable list of noted choreographers, among them are Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp and George Balanchine.

The company was started by Robert Joffrey and Gerald ARpino and was initially composed of six dancers who toured the country in a U-Haul trailer led by Arpino. They had their first major performance in a major city in Chicago in 1957.

The company is now composed of 42 dancers and regularly holds shows at the Auditorium Theater at Roosevelt University in Chicago, for its October-May Season. The company appeared in the movie Save the Last Dance (2001) when the two main characters saw a performance of Sea Shadow and Les PrÈsages.
