Spoon is an independent rock band that was formed in 1994 in Austin, Texas. The band is composed of Britt Daniel, Eric Harvey, Jim Eno, and Rob Pope, although many changes have happened in the band that was a result of the departure of its former members Joshua Zarbo, Greg Wilson, Andy McGuire, and Sean Kirkpatrick.
The band started forming in the later part of 1993, and named their band in honor of the German band ìCanî, who had a hit single called ìSpoon.î The bandís recording debut came in May 1994 with the release of the vinyl record ìThe Nefarious EP.î After a year or so, the band was then signed by Matador Records, which produced the bandís first full-length album, ìTelephono.î
Some of the bandís songs have been used in a number of films such as ì17 Again,î ìI Love You, Man,î and ì(500) Days of Summer.î Although the band remains an indie group, they have received consistently high reviews for many of their songs that have also been chart toppers.
